As you can see by the photos it has been a busy few days at our place. The car arrived back from the panel beaters at the weekend which will give us two weeks to get everything ready for Rally of Melbourne.
After Forster I spent a humbling few days at Shane’s workshop stripping a sad looking Mirage back to a shell, ready to head off to the panel beaters. As customers dropped their cars in for a service there were a few raised eyebrows when they glanced over and saw my car!!
The first panel beater we took the car to couldn’t believe the extent of the damage and said it would take 4 – 5 weeks solid and thousands of dollars, which was very disheartening. At that point we didn’t think we would be able to fix it. We then spoke to Anthony, a guy down in Canberra who seemed much more optimistic and enthusiastic about the project and suddenly everything was achievable. One of TRD’s boys, Steve Miller, also agreed to help Anthony and I am still in awe of how two guys managed to turn what the car looked like in Forster…… to what it does now – like a Mirage!! It is also now a bright red, so will hopefully go a bit faster!!
In the past three days we have managed to get most of the car back together, with a few small jobs still to complete before it’s ready. I’m so excited and still can’t believe how quickly we have got it back together! Bill and Trent have spent hours over here and it has been such a huge help – I have no doubt that if it was just me here I would still be getting the engine in! It’s great to be able to work around guys who not only have a wealth of knowledge, but are also perfectionists so you know everything will be done right.
The car is off getting ‘stickered’ today and we will hopefully get to give the car a quick run early next week before heading to Melbourne. I’ll be sure to keep you updated on how everything goes over the next week.
A massive thanks to Steve, Anthony, Bill and Trent for all your help - there is no way that Rally of Melbourne would have been on the cards without you!!
