The first day of the Rally of Melbourne has ended in disappointment for Molly Taylor after she retired with a broken driveshaft on just the second stage of the day.
Molly hit a rock on a fast, fourth gear corner on the stage, which broke the driveshaft and left her Mitsubishi Mirage stranded on the side of the stage.
With the car repaired, Molly and co-driver Glen Weston completed the final super special stage of the day, and will restart the event in Heat 2 tomorrow morning.
Molly reported that co-driver Weston, who replaced regular partner Dale Moscatt for this event, had fitted in to the team well.
The day was won by Simon and Sue Evans, who clinched their second Australian Rally Championship title with a faultless drive.
